Whisky review: Glenfarclas 105 (60%, OB +/- 2019) | WhiskyNotes blog. Glenfarclas 105 was one of my all-time favourite daily drams ten years ago. I was still living in Spain back then and I remember bringing it home several times. It had plenty of oomph, rich and dark sherry flavours and an unbeatable price Glenfarclas was the first distillery to release a cask strength single malt whisky in 1968. That CS bottling has since been renamed to 105, which is the British alcohol proof equivalent for 60% ABV (alcohol by volume). Nowadays 60% ABV is referred as 120 proof Glenfarclas 105 has changed my view on NAS whiskies. Call me crazy, but I actually prefer this bottling to the 15 year old, which tasted a little stuffy and geriatric in comparison. By using properly aged spirit (at least 8 years old according to rumours) and good quality casks, Glenfarclas has knocked it out of the park with the 105
I picked up a sample of this in the Whisky Exchange shop in Covent Garden, London. I went for this because I have seen it before and thought that the colour was really amazing, it looks so dark and mysterious! So without any further ado, here is my Glenfarclas 105 review Glenfarclas '105' is rated 85/100 by 29 reviewers on Connosr, the world's favourite whisky community. Read all the reviews here

For lovers of Glenfarclas certainly worth a try. He is surprisingly fresh for his age A great whisky holding all the flavours of all the Glenfarclas in one glass. Being so warming, this is the perfect Hogmanay dram. Don't be afraid of the strength and order a 210, if you dare! The smoothness makes the 105 drinkable at cask strength, but I suggest adding a little water to fully explore its great depth Glenfarclas 105 Review December 14, 2017 December 14, 2017 J.R. Batch variation seems to be an issue in Glenfarclas 105, so let's give this 'bang for the buck malt' a proper re-review
I also noted some reviews of the 15 complaining of a sulphur taint, something I have never experienced in that expression but I wasn't so lucky with the 105 so go figure! The one thing you can say about Glenfarclas is that they do maintain some traditions (I dread to use the word 'craft' after Jason's rant about Balvenie) In 1968, Glenfarclas was the first to release a cask strength single malt whisky. This bottling was re-named to 105, the British alcohol proof equivalent for 60% alcohol by volume. We all refer to this now as 120 proof ,which is simply double the abv, as opposed to 105 degrees proof or 7/4th times the alcohol by volume aggressive little character this one ! final score: 87/100 [shop for a bottle of glenfarclas 105 cask strength] Some Final Thoughts: Despite the fact that I did not review it this time around, a bottle of Glenfarclas 15-year-old in my liquor cabinet currently suffers from a case of sulfuritis (although, thankfully, it is not evident on the nose) Glenfarclas is probably my favourite unpeated distillers, they have never disappointed in providing a first class product, full of flavour. 105, 15, 18, 21 and 25 all better but in relation to the price they are all stunning value. I say it again, thank you glenfarclas! I will always have a glenfarclas on the go in the collection Glenfarclas 25 Year Old Review. Richard Hammond June 13, 2018. Scotch Whisky Reviews 5. For the second of my cask strength 'sherry bomb' reviews we are looking at the Glenfarclas 105. I gave you a brief oversight of the history of Glenfarclas with my review of the 15 year old so no point re-treading old ground there. Interestingly the 105 can be traced back to 1968 and Glenfarclas were the first distillery to release a cask strength single malt Glenfarclas 105 Scotch Whisky Review. I love scotch. Obviously. My first Glenfarclas review, and it's also my pick of their standard range. Next stop, sherry town! I must admit, given the choice between what are two of the most popular sherry-matured whisky distilleries in Scotland, Glenfarclas and Glendronach, I would usually go for the latter

105 proof was the old measure of alcohol content. The whisky was mixed with gunpowder. Based on the explosive strength of the mixture, it was possible to calculate the alcohol content. The younger standard Glenfarclas 105, which I'm certain many of you have tried, succeeds primarily because of the youthful exuberance of its bold and unrestrained sherry. Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength scotch is part of the trend for bottling straight from the barrel without benefit of blending down with water. The bottling proof is not 105 but rather 120 (60% alcohol) vs the typical bottling strength of around 86 (or 43% alcohol) One of the most recent reviews called out the fact that rumors are that with the next release of the Glenfarclas 40 year-old, the price point is going to be set much higher. What the Distiller Says This was my introduction to Glenfarclas - starting with the youngest expression in their aged range (not sure how old the 105 Cask Strength is, reports are it is younger than 10 yrs) Glenfarclas also claims to have pioneered the cask-strength bottling, when it launched its 105˚ in 1968, and was one of the first distilleries to open its doors to visitors (in 1973). This, and a long-term belief in single malt (rather than only selling fillings for blends) is now paying off
